Construction of two-storey training / exercise building at Craig Y Ddywart Quarry, Rhewl

RLDavies & Son Ltd were appointed the main contractor by Conwy County Council to undertake the front and rear extensions to Ysgol Cynfran, Llysfaen.

As the school being in full operation and lessons learnt from similar projects, we worked with the school to develop the Traffic Management Plan well in advance of commencing works. Our health and safety officer met with the headmaster to establish the school’s timetable and ensured our deliveries, construction works didn’t impact on the school’s operations. We also installed partitions to ensure a secure segregation between the existing school and the construction sites to the front and rear.

During the course of the construction process, existing services, not shown on any utility plans were discovered. These services were isolated immediately, and the headmaster & client informed straight away. Reviewing the critical path, we were able to revise the programme to allow works to progress in other areas and prevent delay to the overall completion date.

Added Value – The school had mentioned the defective condition of one of the porta cabin classrooms. As gesture of goodwill, RLD installed new cladding to the external façades and applied a decorative finish.
