Ysgol Llanllechid
OBR ConstructionYsgol Llanllechid has recently completed a transformative £1.1m development that expands the school’s capacity and strengthens its role at the heart of the local Welsh‑medium community. Delivered by OBR Construction for Gwynedd Council, the project adds two modern classrooms and upgrades key internal spaces, including a new headteacher’s office and improved building services.
The extension was built using a fabric‑first, energy‑efficient approach with enhanced insulation, high‑performance windows, airtight construction, and low‑carbon technologies. These choices reduce running costs and support long‑term sustainability. Construction partners Saer Architecture, Cadarn Consulting, and SP Projects worked collaboratively to deliver the scheme safely on a live school site.
Beyond the building itself, the project generated meaningful social value. 73% of spending supported Welsh SMEs, and 100% of the workforce was Wales‑based, keeping economic benefits local. Pupils enjoyed a Q&A session about construction careers, a week of work experience was provided, and five accredited qualifications strengthened the regional workforce. The team also donated and installed new balance beams, enhancing outdoor play and wellbeing.
The development supports several national wellbeing goals, from promoting the Welsh language to improving community cohesion, sustainability, equality, and prosperity. Ultimately, the new facilities create high‑quality learning spaces that help children thrive, support future growth, and reinforce the cultural identity of the area.
