Building North Wales Communities Together

Blue Light

Eastern Divisional Headquarters, Wrexham

Galliford Try North West has successfully completed the delivery of a new divisional headquarters for North Wales Police. It combines numerous specialist operations, as well as a custody facility.

Procured under the NWCF1 framework, a key objective of the project was to deliver social impact, supporting the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act 2015 Wellbeing Goals. Through a process of early engagement and collaboration with community stakeholders, the project delivered significant social value, exceeding contract and NWCF1 framework Community Benefit targets.

Early Engagement During Pre-Construction

At pre-construction stage we worked closely with North Wales Police & Crime Commissioner and community stakeholders to develop and align a project Social Value Plan with local priorities and needs. These priorities and commitments were then embedded into our supply chain engagement, with day-to-day delivery led by the project team in partnership with community anchor organisations. This whole team approach is how we were able to collectively deliver social value for the North Wales community.

Creating Measurable Social Value

Using our Social Profit Calculator (SPC) , we have calculated the total social profit of the project as £29.8 million, giving a social profit ratio of £1.75. Therefore, for every £1 of project value we have identified an additional £1.75 of social, economic and environmental impact as a result of the project. Our analysis shows that the greatest social profit was created from local supply chain spend multiplied in the economy, as a result of how we targeted our spend in the local area creating supply chain employment. Complementing these priorities new job creation, work placements and educational engagement also produced significant social return on investment for the community.

Awards

'There was considerable collaboration amongst all the interested parties from contractor to consultants and client as well as the subcontractors. The ethos of Galliford Try mirrors very much that of the PCC and the Wellbeing of Futures Generation Act, which is evidenced in such strong figures for the employment of local subcontractors/labour, as well as sourcing local suppliers.' Arfon Jones, Police and Crime Commissioner for North Wales Police.
